Update on new sporting and recreation facilities at Regents Park
Council is making progress on a number of key sport and recreation facility improvements at Regents Park as part of the roll-out of the Master Plan for the site.
Changes at the site include the addition of two new floodlit outdoor netball courts; upgrade of the playground facilities; and relocation of the Jack Cuthbertson Memorial Garden.
Outdoor Netball Courts: Works are scheduled to begin on the two new outdoor netball in coming months. The first stage will include removal of some existing vegetation, which has been awarded a permit by the Victorian Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
Jack Cuthbertson Memorial Garden: Council has been working closely with the family of Jack Cuthbertson on a new location and layout for the memorial garden. Council deeply appreciates the Cuthbertson family’s flexibility to find a new site that will allow the much-needed netball courts to be built while ensuring that the legacy of Jack lives on through the memorial garden. It will be relocated to the area currently occupied by the playground facility. The new memorial site will be a quiet, contemplative space which showcases the existing indigenous plants that provide a haven for wildlife and pays tribute to a tireless advocate for our natural environment.
New Playground Facilities: Lochiel Ave Reserve playground is being upgraded to provide play activities for children of all ages, with dedicated junior and senior areas. A picnic shelter, tables, drinking fountain, bike racks, seating, bins and soft landscaping elements such as garden beds and shade trees will also be added.

Is their lighting included in the Lochiel Avenue playground revamp? Walking through the current playground from the clubrooms on Sunday evening after football match presentation with my grandson at night is very daunting as it is pitch black.

What plant species are to be used in the proposed garden beds? Are you going to use indigenous plant species to encourage education of biodiversity values? What is the species of the proposed shade tree? Is it indigenous?
