Help shape Kingston’s Tennis, Pickleball and Padel Plan
Tennis has a strong and active community in Kingston, while new ways to play, including pickleball and padel, are creating more opportunities for people to get active, have fun and connect.
We’ve developed a Draft Tennis, Pickleball and Padel Plan 2026–2030 to help guide the future of these sports across Kingston and now we want to hear what you think.
Why are we developing a plan?
The way people play tennis sports is changing.
While traditional tennis remains popular, we’re seeing growing interest in more flexible and social ways to play, including casual tennis, pickleball and padel.
At the same time, our tennis clubs are facing challenges including volunteer capacity, facility maintenance and the ongoing cost of keeping courts and facilities in good condition.
The draft plan looks at how we can make the most of what we already have, support our local clubs and create more opportunities for people to participate.
It has been developed using participation data, information about our existing facilities, asset condition, club feedback and broader trends in tennis, pickleball and padel.
What are we hoping to achieve?
Our vision is to create inclusive, accessible and sustainable tennis, pickleball and padel opportunities in Kingston through quality facilities and strong, well-supported clubs.
Over the next five years, the draft plan focuses on:
- Making the most of what we have: Planning for the maintenance and renewal of existing courts and facilities, while looking for opportunities to make better use of our existing network.
- Supporting our clubs: Working with local clubs to strengthen their sustainability, governance, volunteer capacity and long-term planning.
- Creating more ways to play: Improving access to casual and flexible play, supporting participation pathways and exploring opportunities for pickleball and padel.
- Working together: Continuing to work with local clubs, Tennis Victoria, private operators and the wider community to plan for the future.
- Planning for future needs: Monitoring participation and population changes so we can respond as the community’s needs change.
What does this mean for Kingston?
The draft plan is not just about building new courts.
It is about making sure we have a sustainable racquet sport network that works for the community now and into the future.
This could include better use of existing facilities, multi-use courts, improved public access, supporting local clubs, upgrading facilities and exploring opportunities for pickleball and padel as demand grows.
Council will also continue to work with clubs and other partners to identify opportunities for participation, including for women and girls, juniors and people from diverse backgrounds.
Have your say
The draft plan (see documents menu) has been developed with input from clubs and key stakeholders, and now we want to hear from the wider Kingston community.
Whether you play tennis every week, have recently discovered pickleball, are interested in trying padel, or simply want to see more opportunities to get active locally, we want to hear from you.
