Council is currently updating its Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021. We have developed a draft plan and now need your feedback to check that it is relevant to Kingston.

Share your feedback to help Council create a healthier, safer and more engaged Kingston community.

Background

Council is legislated by the Health and Wellbeing Act to prepare a four-year municipal health and wellbeing plan upon the election of each new Council. Kingston’s Health and Wellbeing Plan outlines Council’s commitment in developing and promoting being healthy and well to its residents.

To develop our Draft Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021, we:

  • surveyed 500 residents with a health and safety survey
  • spoke with Council staff, partners and community members to ensure a broad range of knowledge was learned from
  • evaluated previous plans
  • reviewed and analysed state and federal policies and literature
  • collated and analysed health, safety and demographic data
  • had the draft plan reviewed and authorised by Council senior staff and Councillors.

Three documents produced during the development phase are in the Document Library for you to read:

Help Kingston be healthy and safe!

After taking all of the above into account we now have our Draft Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021! Download your copy of the draft plan from the Document Library to have a read.

We need you to tell us if it is on track! Are our priorities and objectives the most relevant to Kingston? Are our performance measures applicable? Does the background information make sense?

Complete the questions below to share your feedback about the draft plan.

This consultation closes Friday 18 August.

I appreciate the work put into this Health and well being plan and look forward to its implementation and positive achievements. This will be guided by the strategies, policies and action plans of the individual council plans.
One of my main areas of concern in this plan is in reference to our mature and ageing population and people with some form of disability (20%). Improvements in health & quality of life for them as for all our Kingston residents is very important and dependent on appropriate actions and policies.
Mention should be made in the plan that the City of Kingston has signed the Victorian government Age Friendly Declaration & is committed to creating and sustaining an age friendly community.
As affordable housing is a priority and a growing area I would like to see more initiative in planning and policy such as a local housing plan for more affordable housing and an adequate percentage of new flats /apartments for low income people such as is now available in other councils and seen overseas.
As health and well being is dependent on valued and meaningful employment at all ages and abilities, especially as we mature. I would like to see some strategies to achieve the objectives based on the data and priority recommendations in the 2016 Willing to Work National report .
