The planned all accessible outdoor gym at GR Bricker Reserve in Moorabbin will be a ‘game changer’ for local residents seeking to get fit.

Wider works are currently underway to upgrade the reserve, following community consultation on the site’s Masterplan in 2019. A new car park, path network, cricket nets, scoreboard and fence have already been installed and a new sports pavilion is currently under construction.

We heard from residents they’d like to see the outdoor gym equipment upgraded for all abilities and that access should be improved for wheelchair-bound users. These are key features of the concept plan.

The proposed equipment includes:

  • monkey bars
  • parallel bars
  • dual dip bars
  • chin-up bars
  • shoulder disc
  • balance board
  • tai-chi wheels
  • steps
  • punchball

The exercise equipment will be installed on a rubber softfall surface and will be accessible via a new wheelchair-friendly path from the existing path network.

Update on the GR Bricker Reserve outdoor gym renewal

Thanks to all who contributed feedback on this project.

The initial design we presented in August 2023 was guided by the endorsed Master Plan prepared in 2019.

During community consultation, feedback informed us that more dynamic equipment and equipment that focuses on the lower body, for leg and cardio work outs, would be desirable.

We've revised the design to include two pieces of dynamic equipment - an elliptical machine and a stepper machine.

The new design also now includes an incline bench for sit-ups and push-ups, and pads at various heights for jump training and stepping, which can also be utilised for push-ups, dips and balancing.

Equipment for wheelchair-bound users has been retained with modifications to the combination unit. This unit offers chin-ups at various heights, twisting/stretching, tai chi wheels, a shoulder disc, incline bench, step stretching, incline parallel bars and jump and tap equipment.

You can view the new design in the Document Library on the right-hand side of this page.

    Timing of works

Council has appointed a contractor for the works and construction is expected to commence in early 2024.
