Background information

Council recently installed two electric vehicle charging stations and with the rise in electric vehicle purchases and future adoption trends, there is need for many more.

Community consultation will help Council determine how the community uses electric vehicles, how and where they charge them, where they would like to see charging locations and what features they would like to see at charging stations.

This feedback will inform the final Policy and Placement Plan and enable Council to plan the effective roll out of new charging station locations.

Further input from relevant stakeholders such as charge point operators and energy companies will help Council understand market supply, enable Council to plan for challenges and opportunities, mitigate risk and manage community expectations regarding feasibility of fulfilling wants/needs.

FAQ

What will happen to my location suggestions?

Your suggestions will help us compile a list of locations that can be further analysed for suitability and technical compliance for installation. Not all locations suggested may be suitable due to a range of technical factors.

These will include technical constraints such as the available capacity of the electrical network to charge vehicles, and consideration of parking restrictions and availability.

How many electric vehicle chargers will be installed in the City of Kingston?

At this stage, Council is gathering feedback from the community for potential installation of EV chargers. Council will be issuing an Expression of Interest in March-April 2024 to Charge Point Operators to deliver the infrastructure.

Where are existing EV chargers located?

Council has installed two public chargers, one in Chelsea and by Peter Scullin Reserve, Mordialloc. There are currently over a dozen chargers in the City of Kingston that can also be located via plugshare.com.
