Uncle Des
previous next
Local elder Uncle Des is a prominent community figure who's made many lasting contributions to the City of Kingston. A popular school crossing supervisor, he's also a member of the Derrimut-Weelam Gathering Place Steering Committee. But the Epsom Racecourse, which closed in 1988, holds his most treasured memories. "Driving tractors or working with the horses was always nice because we all got on so well and just clicked," he recalls. Today, you’ll find Uncle Des at the Mordialloc Bowls Club, where a perfect day would be "playing bowls and beating Beaumaris." And the future? Uncle Des looks forward to the removal of the Mordialloc level crossing, making our city more accessible for everyone. What a lasting legacy, Uncle Des! Here’s Cheers to 30 Years!
