Stories from our community

Michael Eddington loves the variety Kingston offers—epic beaches, great parks, and open spaces that foster a genuine community feel. Michael knows these amenities well, having started his journey at our aquatic centre, Waves, and a staff member of council for 22 years.
His favourite memory? “A long time ago… riding to school along the bike track to St. Louis,” he reminisces. “We had a huge group of kids that would ride together, finding jumps along the way—it was like our own bike freeway through Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens, Edithvale, and Chelsea.”
For Michael, Kingston’s best-kept secret is its beaches, though he jokes, “Don’t tell everyone how good they are!”
Describing his perfect day, Michael starts with swimming lessons at Waves with his daughter, followed by a coffee at home, a leisurely stroll with his dog around Bicentennial Park, and an afternoon swim at the beach.
Looking ahead, Michael hopes Kingston’s outdoor spaces—bike tracks, parks, and beaches—will continue to be cherished by the community for years to come.
We agree with you, Michael! Here’s Cheers to 30 Years!
